New Chicago Public Schools CEO Tom Linebarger promises reforms
Linebarger says he will focus on improving student achievement, equity, and safety.
CHICAGO — New Chicago Public Schools CEO Tom Linebarger on Thursday vowed to reform the district, focusing on improving student achievement, equity, and safety.
Linebarger, who was appointed by Mayor Lori Lightfoot earlier this year, said he will work to ensure that all students have access to a quality education, regardless of their race, income, or zip code.
“We need to make sure that every child in Chicago has the opportunity to succeed,” Linebarger said. “That means providing them with the resources and support they need to reach their full potential.”
Linebarger said he will also focus on improving equity in the district. He said he will work to close the achievement gap between black and white students and between students from low-income and affluent families.
“We need to make sure that all students have the same opportunities to succeed,” Linebarger said. “That means providing them with the same access to high-quality teachers, resources, and support.”
Linebarger also said he will focus on improving safety in the district. He said he will work to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students.
“We need to make sure that every student feels safe and welcome in our schools,” Linebarger said. “That means creating a culture of respect and tolerance.”
